The St. John's Maple Leafs won their third straight provincial championship with a 4 game sweep of the TriPen Osprey in the NLMMHL Championship Series. Scores of the four games were 2-1, 6-4, 3-2 and 7-2. Curtis Heffernan took home the President's Trophy for Top Play-off Performance with 9G and 8A in 10 games. In a hard fought final game, the Leafs scored early and often leading 2-0 after the first period; 6-1 after 2; with a final score of 7-2. The Leafs will now travel to Miramichi, NB, to represent the Branch at the Atlantics being held March 30 - April 2, 2017. The winner of the Atlantics witll represent the Atlantic Region at the National Telus Cup Championship. The League, its fans, and Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador would like to congratulate the St. John's Maple Leafs and wish them good luck in their quest to the Telus Cup.
